Practice development experts Steve Pipe and Mark Wickersham launched a free initiative called Improve Your Practice at Accountex in London last week.

Pipe said the reaction at the conference was “gobsmacking” with more than 600 people signing up for the improvement initiative in just two days.

The step-by-step programme is based on 16 years’ worth of research by AVN that gives accountants the insights and training they need to improve profits, cashflow, average fees, service levels, client base and work-life balance.

Pipe said it was their way of saying thank you by giving something back.

He told AccountingWEB: “Now that I only work 90 days a year I have so much more free time to give back to the profession. That’s how in 2012 I was able to create Accountants Changing The World as a free initiative that accountants can use to make things better for others, and why in 2014 I have spearheaded Improve Your Practice as a free initiative that accountants can use to make things better for themselves.

“Together they are my way of trying to make the biggest difference to the largest possible number of people.”

Pipe said the new improvement curriculum is designed to give practititioners everything they need to improve their practices and results.

“And since it’s our gift to the profession, it is all completely free,” he said.

Wickersham added that along with a complete improvement curriculum, firms get instant access to a comprehensive library to help them get off to a flying start.

“There is no theory, just really practical step-by-step detail that is all firmly rooted in research,” Wickersham said. “I don’t think there has ever been anything like it before, which is why everyone we talk to is so excited about it.”

The free resources that are available to accountants through Improve Your Practice include training videos, webinars, ready-to-use systems, step-by-step guidance, case studies, checklists and a complete “Excellence Model”.

The website also includes research reports including “Your blueprint for a better accountancy practice” and “How to build better referral relationships with bankers”.
