IRIS bolsters Elements and adds new client dashboard

by

Accounting software suite IRIS has released Elements Central Business Review, a new client dashboard module for its cloud platform, and added new features to its Professional tier of tax and accounts products, including LLP accounts and direct 64/8 authorisations.

Citing growing app fatigue and greater demands for data-led insights from accounting professionals, IRIS has released Elements Central Business Review, a dashboard that pulls together client accounting data and displays a range of key performance indicators (KPIs) and real-time updates.

The dashboard features customisable KPIs showing clients’ financial performance, where IRIS customers can see trends and identify insights. Examples provided by IRIS include the ability for firms to provide early sight and notification of issues within a client’s accounts such as revenue loss, increased costs or reaching the VAT threshold.

In a statement about the dashboard, IRIS said it will allow accountants to be “better equipped to conduct financial performance health checks with clients, reducing the time spent switching between different bookkeeping tools, running ad hoc reports, and referring to multiple spreadsheets.”

Available for early adoption in May 2024, the first version of the module will provide full integration with Xero, and future versions will be able to extract third-party data from a wider ecosystem of vendors including all major bookkeeping products.

“Our customers are looking for greater access to meaningful data to run their practices and help clients,” Mark Chambers, MD of accountancy at IRIS Software Group told AccountingWEB. “The Elements dashboard offers more value as our customers can use it to initiate conversations with customers.”

Elements Professional enhancements

IRIS has added several enhancements to the Professional pricing tier of its Elements accounts production and tax products. Additions released in the Spring 2024 update include the following.

IRIS Elements Professional Edition for Accounts Production

  • The ability to produce accounts for limited liability partnerships (LLPs).
  • Using APIs, accountants can now extract, transfer and import data – including .csv files and third-party bookkeeping packages, such as Xero.

IRIS Elements Professional Edition for Tax

  • Elements now includes the 64/8 “authorising your agent” forms to help accountants streamline communications with HMRC about their clients’ affairs.
  • System refinements offer more visibility into upcoming compliance deadlines for filing VAT, accounts, self assessment and corporation tax via a widget on the Elements homepage.
  • Both tax and accounts production modules now also have enhanced permission management features, supporting practices with high-profile clients.

First launched in 2022, IRIS Elements is a cloud system designed to integrate with the vendor’s cloud and desktop products, pulling data from IRIS applications and third-party software into a single client record and enabling accounting firms to operate on a single platform.

Through IRIS Elements, customers can onboard clients, produce and file accounts, conduct tax calculations, submit returns to HMRC and conduct practice-wide anti-money laundering compliance on a single platform.

More to come in 2024

Available this summer, a new Time and Expenses capability from within the IRIS Elements suite offers firms the ability to accurately track and report where they are spending their time.

According to IRIS, the Time and Expense release will be the beginning of more advanced data tracking features within Elements that will ultimately help customers answer key questions about their business, such as, how profitable they are.

During winter 2024, IRIS plans to release IRIS Elements Enterprise Edition Tax and Accounts Production modules to help larger practices move to the cloud without the need to switch between different applications.

Taxfiler migration concerns

AccountingWEB also quizzed IRIS Accountancy MD Chambers about the current migration of customers from cloud tax and accounts production tool Taxfiler to the equivalent IRIS Elements products. Taxfiler was acquired by IRIS in 2018, and last year IRIS told AccountingWEB it was planning to migrate subscribers to IRIS Elements Tax and Accounts and eventually sunset the Taxfiler product.

As visitors to AccountingWEB’s Any Answers forum have flagged, a number of these migrations have not gone smoothly, with members flagging issues such as disappearing data and an inability to file returns.

“We recognise there have been some issues with Taxfiler migrations and want to assure customers that we have a robust management process in place and are moving swiftly to resolve problems as they are reported to us,” said Chambers.

“No one has been left without an operable solution when they have reported problems to us. Of the 5,000 or so customers we have migrated to date, less than 5% have raised incidents,” he added.

Agreed - I have flagged it but you would think that was an easy change but we have to reduce it manually every time from 53 weeks.

From what others have said on here its the almost non existent access to support thats the issue, no mention of that here.

Chambers would make a good replacement for Jim Harra - like for like!

I mentioned this to (one of) the head(s) of support for IRIS whilst at Accountex yesterday and he struggled to see it this way. In his eyes, they have a support ticket system and they have a phone line. However, the phone line is technically paid for only but he seemed to be under the impression that if you rang they wouldn't send you away.

I encourage anyone with an active issue with Elements to call this number and ask for help.

Iris Elements - I used Senta and taxfiler, and then Iris bought them up. So I moved to Elements and the support, well this is none and when I wanted to give notice 30 days I thought - no 90 days. no email or account manager to notify you that your contract was coming up for 90 day renewal. The terms are i the Manage App settings - hey why would I visit that ? It says when the contract ends but not that 90 days notice is needed. Was really unhappy about it and they released me from the practice management contract. They said The tax data transfer into Iris they were really helpful and it worked. I am not sure if Iris knows where it is going with Elements or if I want to be on that journey with them in the future. I dread moving practice software and the data input again but I hate having to deal with Iris.

I use Senta and so far I have not had to transition to Elements, I guess by the sounds of it I am lucky and I will just stay put until forced to move.

I was hopeful there but I just completed a new SA return and it's still wanting to the client to pay 53 weeks.

Yes, it's worse now because on some if I re-run them it is 53 weeks, others 52 weeks.

You couldn't make it up

Unfortunately, IRIS seems to share management policies and structures, akin to HMRC. I'm never sure which organisation is more dysfunctional.
If you have a situation, which is even slightly off-piste, my goodness, they make an absolute meal of it, and more often, the outcome isn't ideal.
I get the impression that IRIS operates a hybrid working environment, which is just simply embarrassing. The outcome for the 'customer' is frustrating, as I say, akin to HMRC.

I don't want all this additional nonsense it's not of any real use to anyone. I just need the account and tax package . I dont wan't Go Proposal or any other nonsense on my home screen. And i do not like the layout either they should start providing us with what we need not what they want.
