Here at AccountingWEB, our community is at the heart of what we do. So we want to thank those members who made it a great year for us.

Last year we revived an old tradition of celebrating the most popular and entertaining posts and influential members in our Community Awards.

This year, the awards are back and bigger than ever. We’ll still be honouring those members who have won the respect and acclaim of their peers - and some of them will receive a little thank you from our award sponsors at Clear Books.

The awards give you, our members, a chance to nominate and vote for other people on the site who you think should be honoured in any of the 10 award categories listed below.

Over the next week, keep an eye out for our nomination posts on the blogs, Any Answers section and discussion groups.

You can post your nomination under these posts, or vote by clicking the ‘thanks’ button under existing posts made by other members.

Feel free to add reasons why the particular member deserves to be nominated for a prize. You can include quotes, links to previous threads or simply amusing anecdotes.

Winners will be chosen by the most mentions and thanks. We will also choose one overall member of the year, based on the number of thanks they’ve received throughout the year.

Hyperlinks categories will appear as the relevant threads get added to the site over the next few days - so make sure to keep checking back to vote for members in the respective categories.

Previous winners include the Flying Scotsman as blogger of the year, David Winch scooping Boffin of the Year. Last year ShirleyM earned the top accolade of member of the year for the huge number of thanks she received.

So keep an eye out for categories to appear and do make sure to vote - every thanks and comment will make sure your favourite member gets recognised and an extra Chrismas present this year. And who knows? It could even be you.

Flaw in the voting system

Member of the year is awarded by number of thanks.

Other members can agree with my nominations by clicking thanks underneath it.

Can I win member of the year by posting popular nominations? :-D

Incidentally, why is this buried under Tech instead of being on the home page?

Member of the year is awarded by number of thanks received in the last 12 months - so yes, all thanks do count. But some members have amassed hundreds of thanks in the last year - and we can always check at our end when they were received.

I've also made sure this post is on the homepage, so thanks for flagging those two points up!

Cash for thanks

The next scandal due to break out in the accounting world.

I was thinking more of being one of the 3 headline subjects rather than appearing in Latest News. That said, I suspect that the real attention to these will be in Any Answers, where there are plenty of threads flagging it up anyway.
