The Far Side of Excel - it's not always fun with Functions

Simon Hurst muses on some of the issues he encountered when attempting to use Excel to come up with an optimum salary/dividend mix.

My recent three part excursion into Excel's goal seeking and solution finding tools took me into some of the darker recesses of Excel's treasure-packed attic, including Data tables, and the Solver function.

An Any Answers question on calculating the optimum balance of salary versus dividends prompted these investigations, but ultimately it led me back to some of the concerns ExcelZone consistently raises about spreadsheet use.

Because Excel is so flexible and comprehensive, it gets used in many different ways even by those working in the same general area such as accountants. I am sure...
