The rapid deployment of the online Sage Impact suite is a further sign that the UK accounting software giant has not taken its foot off the gas in its journey towards the cloud, reports Robert Lovell.

Since announcing Sage Impact at Accountex in May, the developer has continued to enhance the core offering for accountants while simultaneously introducing Sage Live, a mid-market cloud accounting product that runs on the Salesforce.com platform.

The first instalment of Sage Impact is now available for trial online and will be enhanced over the summer to give accounting firms a suite of cloud-based applications in one place. The current version includes:

  • Sage One Accountant Edition
  • Sage One Accounts (for clients)
  • Sage One Payroll
  • Final Accounts Online
  • Sage View KPI dashboard tool
  • Integration with Google Calendar and Mail.

At the recent Sage Summit in New Orleans, Sage announced a number of additions for the suite including Sage Match, a database to direct clients to compatible Sage One accountants, and the Sage Value pricing tool to drive cost discussions with cilents and enable value-based billing. Corporation tax and email marketing modules are said to be “coming soon”.

Jennifer Warawa, global vice president of product marketing for accountants at Sage, said: “When we launched Sage Impact in May, we set out to review and rethink the changing role of accounting professionals, and we haven’t rested for a moment since.

“This summer’s partnership and product announcements show that we’re constantly working with our customers to find the best products that suit their needs. We know every customer is different, and if a product doesn’t exist that best suits them, we’ll either co-create one with them or partner with the best in the business to provide a solution. It’s that simple,” Warawa said.

The US implementation of Sage Impact will offer a couple of extra goodies for American accountants in the shape of a small firm payroll module and a mobile app that will let clients access the KPIs in their Sage View dashboards.

Since former UK government chief operating officer Stephen Kelly took the reins as CEO late last year, Sage has visibly raised its commitment to cloud-based solutions. But Kelly assured delegates at the Sage Summit delegates that the legacy customers would not be forced to adopt the new offerings.

Sage executives also revealed at the summit that Sage Impact and Sage Live will be marketed by working with “progressive accountants” whose clients have fully embraced the cloud.
