2020's final Tech Lowdown: Modulr, FreeAgent, Clarity, Sage and more

This year’s final tech round-up features a new “Pathfinder” partner programme from Modulr, FreeAgent’s cashflow software and integrations from Wolters Kluwer, Sage, Satago, Clarity and Capitalise.

Modulr unveils Pathfinder ahead of Payments Dashboard

Fintech Modulr set up an accountancy Pathfinder programme to prepare the ground for the imminent launch of its Payments Dashboard. The Pathfinder initiative offers access to exclusive events, new accountancy product trials and networking opportunities with senior accountancy innovators.

When it arrives in 2021, the Modulr Payments Dashboard will increase control, visibility and access to payments for accountants through accounting and payroll platform connections. The payment interface will include user access controls and workflow management with multi-step approvals. The new dashboard was partly funded by a recent £10m grant from the Capability and Innovation Fund (CIF) under the RBS Alternative Remedies Package. 

Practitioners including Lucy Cohen from Mazuma Accountants, Boogles Bookkeeping’s Lisa Newton, AVN’s Shane Lukas and Stephen Paul from Valued have signed up to the Pathfinder programme.

“Having a dashboard that gives you greater control and visibility will enable businesses to improve their efficiencies and allow them to concentrate on the parts of the business that drive growth,” commented Mazuma co-founder Lucy Cohen.

“And for any business, systems like this sit at the core of sustainable growth and control. Getting involved in the Pathfinder programme allows me to be part of the solution to a universal problem.”

FreeAgent launches cashflow projection software

FreeAgent has now launched its new cashflow projection module. The tool inputs pre-existing data from FreeAgent accounts, such as invoices, bills, salary and upcoming tax liabilities. It then automatically builds a near-term cashflow forecast to alert users of any financial issues on the horizon. 

“Small businesses don’t always have the luxury of very stable income streams or large amounts of savings available to use when there is an emergency,” said FreeAgent CEO and co-founder Ed Molyneux. “So it’s vital that they are able to effectively monitor their cashflow and deal with problems as quickly as possible. 

“We hope our new feature will help do all the heavy lifting associated with cash flow projection, which in turn will help our customers be better informed about how to keep their finances in good health.”

Wolters Kluwer Tax links Basecone to Sage

Wolters Kluwer Tax & Accounting UK has released a Sage integration with its expense management app Basecone. The Basecone solution automatically recognises delivered invoices and then makes a booking proposal for practices or their clients to check and authorise. 

The real-time workflow app uses optical character recognition (OCR) to automate bookkeeping processes such as invoice capture, processing, approving and booking of sales and purchase invoices. Customers can now use Basecone in tandem with Twinfield, Xero and Sage bookkeeping systems.

Clarity partners with Capitalise 

Business advisory software Clarity and fintech Capitalise have announced an integration partnership to streamline strategy and funding conversations between accountants and their business clients.

“Businesses are four times more likely to get funding with guidance from an accountant,” commented Capitalise commercial director Oliver Cummings. “This partnership was a natural progression for both Clarity and Capitalise. With CBILS and furlough coming to an end in January, our first app partner integration allows advisors to get ahead and ensure their clients are given the best chance to succeed in 2021.

“For small businesses to survive and thrive in 2021 and beyond, actionable strategies and business plans must be delivered with a supporting loan or cashflow solution,” said Clarity CEO Aynsley Damery. “This integration is [ideal] for accountants looking to deliver outstanding value added services for their SME clients.”

Sage and Satago integrate

Sage has partnered with credit control tool Satago to make Satago’s features available within Sage Accounting.  Customers will have access to automated invoice chasing, credit risk insights and invoice finance from a single platform. The Satago app launched earlier this year is now available for customers in the UK and Ireland via the Sage Marketplace, for Sage Business Cloud solutions. 

“It is time to put the SME back in control of their finances,” said Satago CEO Sinead McHale. “We can help through our integration with Sage, by automating credit control and providing access to risk insights to help businesses minimise bad debts and ensure faster payment—essential in today’s environment.”
