Access Group has moved into Cloud technology by buying Prelytis, a French company specialising in business intelligence software.

Access, an Essex-based supplier of business software said that it plans more acquisitions of Cloud suppliers.

Cloud technology, which stores information online in the “Cloud” rather than a company’s premises, has become widely used in business because it gives workers easy access to information wherever they are.

Prelytis’ “LiveDashBoard” product, which has 300 customers, will let Access customers view their business data on laptops, smartphones and tablets when out of the office, said Chris Bayne, Access chief executive.

The software also lets workers have instant messenger-style conversations about data, Access said.

Bayne told AccountingWEB.co.uk that Access will release its first Cloud-based software by the end of this year. The product will incorporate the Prelytis technology, but will give customers the option of combining cloud software with traditional boxed software.

Some experts reckon that Cloud technology is the future of business software, but many finance directors and financial controllers (who account for the majority of Access’ customers) are wary of it. “They remain relatively cautious about [moving] on premises ERP software to the Cloud but want to connect to customers and suppliers using the Cloud,” Bayne said.
