Community Awards: Video of the Year

12th Dec 2013

Video has become the widely embraced media medium of 2013, both with accounting firms themselves, government departments such as HMRC and even AccountingWEB.

This year, we focused on growing our YouTube channel and video offerings including both pre-recorded and live webinars.

We've also noticed firms embracing the video marketing opportunity, too - such as Gordons Knight, Cassons and Butterworths.

That's why in this year's Community Awards, we've decided to add in a brand new category: Video of the Year.

We want your nominations for the funniest, most entertaining, useful or clever accounting videos you've seen this year - whether on site or off.

You can vote for your favourite by posting a link to it or embedding it in the comment box below. If you see one you'd like to vote for that's already been mentioned, you can simply click 'thanks' to register your vote.

The winner will be announced in the 20 December email bulletin and will receive a small present from our kind sponsors at Clear Books.

So, get nominating now - you can even nominate one from your own firm if you like!

How to make a free Autocue

If you're thinking about making your own videos this is one way to be able to try out reading a script and recording a video at the same time, without spending thousands on professional kit.

It's something I've used in several of my own tax & business videos on my small business channel:

Cassons Heroes

We've already been mentioned above but here is a link to Cassons Heroes!

We have had a phenomenal response to the video from clients and friends both old and new around the world!

The video tells the story of a distressed client who is drowning in a mountain of paperwork until her Accounting Super Heroes come to the rescue!   You'll recognise the Bonnie Tyler "Holding out for a Hero" soundtrack but the lyrics are all our own!  It is sung by Lareena Mitchell from Lancashire who appeared on BBC's The Voice earlier this year.

As you'll be able to see we had brilliant fun making the video with amazing buy in from all the partners and staff.  You can see some of the behind the scenes photos and story here.

Courtesy of Mr Excel...

I was looking for a suitable selection from Bill Jelen's Mr Excel YouTube channel, but was diverted by his latest post, which features an interesting version of 'Santa Baby' from CalifornianExcel consultant Szilvia Juhas. You can follow Szilvia on Twitter @Xszil, and when we get back to business after the hols, don't forget to get your regular dose of Mr Excel!
