Bristol-based payroll software specialist QTAC Solutions is diversifying into accounting software as a reseller of the Irish Big Red Book ledger program.
QTAC operations director Mark Smith said the company is always looking to grow organically and the success of the Big Red Book in Ireland led to some further discussions. The companies already share a number of users in the UK and Smith said there was a "natural fit" between the two applications.
"They're both fairly easy to use and are aimed at small businesses who might be frightened of computer software," said Smith. "With the Big Red Book, if you can fill out columns in an accounts book, you can use the software. We're selling it as a book-keeping program rather than a full blown accounts system."
While the Big Red Book plays up the old-fashioned cashbook-based design philosophy, it can link to a sales book for invoicing, as well as ledgers for purchases, creditors, debtors, cheques, bank accounts, and petty cash journals.
However for the time being, integrating the Big Red Book with QTAC payroll software is not a massive priority, Smith said.
To entice companies to try the software, QTAC is offering a 25% reduction on list prices for purchases of The Big Red Book at Softworld.
