It's always best to prepare for big administrative transitions early, but businesses, accountants and even some software developers are struggling to keep up with RTI. John Stokdyk and Rachael Power check on progress among the most commonly used payroll software developers.
Like accountants, the payroll software industry has been suspicious of HMRC’s real time information (RTI) project, to the point that some may have started their preparations late to accommodate the online filing requirements businesses will need to meet from next April.
Phill Robinson at IRIS has claimed that some HMRC-recognised vendors don’t even know what is included, and the company has been making considerable capital out of Sage’s announcement that it will no longer support TAS Payroll. Payexcel is another developer that has fallen by the wayside.
Given the potential for more payroll developers to drop out of the RTI race, some AccountingWEB members asked recently about free software options, which were covered in a previous article.
