Alongside recognising accountancy firms, Thursday evening's Accounting Excellence Awards also applauded the hard work and support coming out of the accounting vendor community over the last 12 months.

The Accounting Excellence Awards team brought together some of the most tech focused accountants to judge three categories: the partnership award, product innovation and the Hero Award.

The categories

A new prize at the gala event, the partnership award celebrates the symbiotic relationship between accountants and vendors. It recognises software vendors who are providing exceptional support to their customers and are working in collaboration with their accountant partners to help them and their clients grow.  The inaugural award this year went to financial reporting and data analytics software Syft Analytics.

The Hero Award, which recognises vendors that went above and beyond for their customers and the wider community, was won by Karbon.

The product innovation award sought out the developers that solved major issues for accountants by using new techniques to help them deliver outstanding value or service to clients.

Accounting Excellence

Partnership Award

  • AccountancyManager
  • Cashplus Bank
  • Fathom
  • Fluidly
  • Syft Analytics - WINNER

The judges noted how Syft had made rapid inroads into a very competitive market by staying close to its customers and responding rapidly to their wishlist requests. It’s a strategy that resulted in a one-click Syft funding pack to generate financial relief reports for bank and government support programmes - a smart initiative that wouldn’t have happened without customer partnership at the core of its product strategy.

Hero Award: Software vendor

  • Fathom
  • Karbon - WINNER
  • Senta by IRIS

The judges applauded the practice workflow developer’s excellent non-commercial ethos and nimble adjustments to pandemic challenges. These strategies included a Covid-19 rapid response kit that contained resources to help firms and a detailed set of 20,000 plus free workflow templates that were downloaded by more than 100 UK accountancy firms.

Product Innovation of the Year

  • Capitalise
  • Connect4
  • Fathom
  • Fluidly
  • Inflo - WINNER

The Product Innovation award went to Inflo for its Digital Audit platform which culminated in 2021 with the launch of its latest module Inflo Workpapers. It’s a comprehensive audit engagement workflow solution. The judges were impressed by the way Inflo had taken new and progressive technologies into new areas in the audit workflow. The digital audit platform is powered by underlying hybrid intelligence that combines technology such as process mining, robotic process automation and machine learning.

Hosted by comedians Marcus Brigstocke and Rachel Parris, and headline sponsored by Dext, the Accounting Excellence Awards returned to The Brewery in London for the first time since 2019.

Vendors will have another chance to win a prestigious award next year at AccountingWEB’s Software Awards. Usually announced on the same night as the Accounting Excellence awards, the finalists of software awards will instead be announced at AccountingWEB’s inaugural Live Expo in December at Coventry’s Building Society Arena.
