The government looks poised to carry out its election pledge to scrap the regional Business Link network as part of sweeping changes to the country’s business infrastructure, reports BusinessZone.co.uk

In recent press interviews, small business minister Mark Prisk said the coalition government was ready to move on its election pledge.

Prisk told the Daily Telegraph the business support regime would be overhauled to deliver electronic and face-to-face support targeted at high growth and conventional businesses.

Expanding on this theme in the Sunday Times, the minister said an emphasis on online support would make the government support service accessible via every business person's handheld and desktop computer."

The government’s plans chime with the views of entrepreneurs on BusinessZone and AccountingWEB.co.uk members. Responding to a survey published last month, three accountants commended the BusinessLink.gov website, but complained about regional Business Link insiders feathering their own nests rather than looking after their clients.

“As with a number of other public-funded bodies, many [Business Link] representatives seem to have no concept of the real world. They talk a good game but what they produce is of little benefit. Good riddance to them,” commented one AccountingWEB.co.uk member.
